Ocean Panel Opens UN Ocean Conference with Event Aboard Statsraad Lehmkuhl Tall Ship

Members of the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Conference (Ocean Panel) began the third UN Ocean Conference in Nice, France with a reception event a board the Norwegian tall ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl. 

 

The event brought together heads of state and government, senior government officials, foundations, philanthropists, and ocean champions to explore how the Ocean Panel’s research and policy work is transforming national ocean governance.

Contributions were made from: 

• His Royal Highness Haakon, Crown Prince of Norway 

• Surangel Whipps Jr President of Palau 

• H.E. Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, UAE’s Representative for the Ocean Panel and IUCN President  

• Lynette Wood, Australian Ambassador to France 

• Chris Gorell Barnes, Co-Founder of Ocean 14 Capital 

There was also a special blessing from ocean conservationist Solomon Pili Kahoʻohalahala, known as Uncle Sol. 

Prince Haakon and President Whipps Jr joined the other speakers in reiterating the importance of the Ocean Panel’s target of 100% sustainable ocean management of national waters.
