Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo

Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo is the 66th President of Mexico and is the first woman to be elected to the presidency. She was Elected 3 June 2024 and assumed office, 1 October 2024. 

Born in Mexico City on 24 June 1962, President Sheinbaum is a physicist and energy engineer with undergraduate and doctoral degrees from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Before entering elected office, she specialised in energy, sustainability, and climate-related research where she built a distinguished academic career focused on environmental policy and sustainable development. 

Her career in public service began in 2000 as Secretary of the Environment for Mexico City and she later served as Mayor of Tlalpan and, from 2018 to 2023, as Head of Government of Mexico City. During her tenure, policies on urban mobility, environmental protection, public security, and social welfare were advanced. 

A member of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) since 2014, Sheinbaum resigned as Head of Government to run for the presidency in 2024. As President, Sheinbaum has prioritised social development, economic resilience, energy sovereignty and environmental sustainability.
