Below explore some top highlights from this year\u2019s COP:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Brazil joins\u00a0the Ocean\u00a0Panel<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">At COP30,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oceanpanel.org\/es\/release-brazil-pledges-100-sustainable-management-of-national-waters-by-2030-joins-the-ocean-panel-at-cop30\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Brazil\u00a0became the\u00a019<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">el<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0member\u00a0of the Ocean Panel<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, committing to sustainable management of\u00a0all\u00a03.68 million km\u00b2 of its national waters.\u00a0Brazil&#8217;s\u00a0EEZ\u00a0is the tenth largest in the\u00a0world and\u00a0boasts the longest coastline in South America. Its waters underpin an ocean economy that contributes\u00a0roughly 19%\u00a0of Brazil&#8217;s GDP, supports 3.5 million jobs in fisheries and aquaculture and drives around 70% of national tourism revenue.\u00a0Brazil also ratified the High Seas Treaty\u00a0at COP30.<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWithout the ocean, we cannot truly confront climate change. We must harness its immense potential to reduce emissions and protect our coasts from extreme weather.\u00a0The ocean is central to Brazil\u2019s culture, diet and livelihoods, and building a sustainable ocean economy will open new opportunities for Brazilians.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0why we have joined the Ocean Panel in its vision to safeguard the ocean and use its resources wisely and responsibly.\u201d\u00a0-\u202f<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ghana publishes SOP<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Also\u00a0at COP30,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oceanpanel.org\/es\/ghana-publishes-sustainable-ocean-plan\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Ghana launched its\u00a0Sustainable Ocean Plan<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> (SOP). The plan presents the long-term stewardship of Ghana\u2019s marine and coastal environments and is structured around six strategic pillars: ocean wealth, ocean health, ocean knowledge, ocean equity, ocean finance and maritime security. The SOP sets out to sustainably manage 100% of Ghana\u2019s EEZ, an area of 235,349 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">km\u00b2. It\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">articulates a clear national vision to safeguard marine ecosystems while enabling the sustainable use of ocean resources for the benefit of present and future generations.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Blue NDC challenge<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">6 new member countries joined the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cop30.br\/en\/news-about-cop30\/brazil-and-france-announce-ocean-task-force-as-new-countries-join-global-ocean-effort\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Blue NDC Challenge<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> to champion ocean-climate action in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Canada, Indonesia and Portugal joined, bringing the total up to 13 Ocean Panel members represented in the Challenge. At a ministerial event, members expressed the intention to transition into <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the\u00a0\u201cBlue NDC Taskforce\u201d,\u00a0to drive implementation of ocean commitments in the 2025 NDC cycle, by mobilizing political leadership, technical\u00a0expertise\u00a0and investment.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Kenya confirms date and location for OOC<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ocean Panel member country\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ouroceanconference.org\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Kenya will host\u00a0Africa\u2019s\u00a0first Our Ocean Conference<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(OOC)\u00a0from 16-18 June\u00a02026\u00a0in Mombasa and Kilifi\u00a0counties.\u00a0The dates and theme were confirmed\u00a0by representatives of the Kenyan government\u00a0at an event in the Ocean Pavilion at COP30.\u00a0Entitled Our Ocean, Our Heritage, Our Future,\u00a0OOC11\u00a0will place a\u00a0global spotlight on ocean action and leadership across Africa and highlight the unique coastal communities, biodiversity, and ecosystems of Kenya and East Africa.\u00a0Watch a video speech from\u00a0Secretary John Kerry celebrating Kenya\u2019s leadership.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Two\u00a0new members of Ocean Action 2030<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">los\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oceanpanel.org\/es\/ocean-action-2030-welcomes-new-members-un-capital-development-fund-and-oceanmind\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Ocean Action 2030\u00a0coalition welcomed two new\u00a0institutional members<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, UN Capital Development Fund and\u00a0OceanMind.\u00a0These organisations will significantly expand Ocean Action 2030\u2019s ability to support countries in both the financing and implementation of Sustainable Ocean Plans \u2013 a critical step to building a sustainable ocean economy and delivering real impact on the ground.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">COP30 Presidency\u00a0Priorities<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">los\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">100% Alliance\u00a0was\u00a0recognised in the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cop30.br\/en\/action-agenda\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">COP30 Presidency\u2019s\u00a0Action Agenda<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0as part of\u00a0Key Objective #7 &#8211;\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Efforts to preserve and restore oceans and coastal ecosystems<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(also known as \u201cthe Blue Package\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0The initiative co-chaired by Australia and Chile, supports a\u00a0global push for countries to sustainably manage 100% of their ocean areas through national Sustainable Ocean data-contrast=\"auto\">Ocean Panel Sherpa\u00a0Co-Chair, Ambassador Ilana Seid was awarded\u00a0the Order of Saint-Charles,\u00a0one of the highest distinctions of the Principality of Monaco,\u00a0in recognition for her contributions to\u00a0the\u00a0this\u00a0year\u2019s\u00a0Blue Economy and Finance Forum.\u00a0Ashok\u00a0Adic\u00e9am\u00a0from the French Ocean Panel team was also awarded\u00a0Knight of the Order of Cultural Merit\u00a0for his contributions to ocean action this year.\u00a0\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Blue Paper published in Nature\u2019s NPJ Ocean Sustainability<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The 2024 Ocean Panel Blue Paper,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Co-producing Sustainable Ocean Plans with Indigenous and traditional knowledge holders, has been published in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">NPJ Ocean Sustainability<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0The paper\u00a0explores how Indigenous and traditional knowledge can be integrated into policymaking processes to create Sustainable Ocean Plans.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">COP31<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It was confirmed on\u00a0Thursday that COP31 will be held in\u00a02026 in\u00a0Antalya,\u00a0Turkey\u00a0where\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0hoped that the ocean will\u00a0be a central pillar to theme of the\u00a0conference.<\/span><span
