{"id":7330,"date":"2025-07-17T10:10:51","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T10:10:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oceanpanel.org\/?p=7330"},"modified":"2025-07-17T10:10:51","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T10:10:51","slug":"matt-frost-appointed-as-expert-group-co-lead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oceanpanel.org\/es\/matt-frost-appointed-as-expert-group-co-lead\/","title":{"rendered":"Matt Frost appointed as Expert Group Co-Lead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As Head of the International Office at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pml.ac.uk\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML)<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and with more than two decades of experience bridging marine science and international policy, Professor Frost brings a unique blend of research excellence, global collaboration and strategic leadership to the role.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Professor Frost holds a PhD in marine biology and, has published over 160 scientific papers and reports. His career has spanned academia, the UK Civil Service and senior leadership positions in the marine science community, including his previous role as Deputy Director of the Marine Biological Association. As Head of PML\u2019s International Office, Matt oversees partnerships and collaborations with organisations across more than 60 countries and plays a key role in global ocean governance efforts, contributing to UNFCCC, CBD, and more recently BBNJ processes. He also leads initiatives such as the World Association of Marine Stations and Chairs the UK National Decade Committee supporting the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In addition to his scientific background, Professor Frost works to foster meaningful dialogue amongst scientists, policymakers and stakeholders. He chairs the Marine Climate Change Impacts Partnership, helping coordinate climate assessments and planning for the UK Overseas Territories and regularly engages with G7 and Commonwealth science programmes, embassies, NGOs and international agencies. His commitment to making science actionable and policy-relevant has earned him recognition as a leader in the science-diplomacy space.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThe Ocean Panel is such a unique initiative on the global stage and the opportunity to contribute to this as a Lead Expert is both an honour and hugely exciting,\u201d said Professor Frost. \u201cThe importance of the ocean for a healthy planet and societal well<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2011<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">being cannot be overestimated and we need to ensure ocean policy and solutions are informed by the most robust and up<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2011<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2011<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">date evidence. I look forward therefore to working with the Ocean Panel and the amazing pool of experts in support of the development of a sustainable ocean economy for the benefit of all.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Composed of over 400 global experts, the Expert Group collaborates to produce\u202fresearch outputs that explore pressing challenges facing the ocean,<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">providing rapid analysis and guidance to inform the Ocean Panel\u2019s agenda. This knowledge base ensures that the work of the Ocean Panel is grounded in the most current and credible science and knowledge. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Professor Frost takes a position vacated by Professor Peter Haugan after seven years of service.
