Fiji\u2019s Sustainable Ocean Plan, known as their National Ocean Policy (NOP<\/a>), lays out Fiji\u2019s commitment to sustainably manage 100% of ocean area under national jurisdiction and its designation of 30% of marine protected areas by 2030.<\/p>\n

Como peque\u00f1o estado insular en desarrollo y gran naci\u00f3n oce\u00e1nica, la zona econ\u00f3mica exclusiva (ZEE) de Fiji es siete veces m\u00e1s grande que su masa terrestre. La mayor parte de su ZEE tiene una abundante biodiversidad y puntos cr\u00edticos de agregaci\u00f3n de peces, que son fundamentales para sustentar las econom\u00edas costeras locales y las pesquer\u00edas nacionales e internacionales. Gestionar estos recursos naturales con las partes interesadas locales es un desaf\u00edo.<\/p>\n

Fiji ha aplicado un enfoque basado en ecosistemas para garantizar que el NOP considere la salud de los oc\u00e9anos, la productividad y la resiliencia de los ecosistemas oce\u00e1nicos y las interacciones con las personas.<\/strong>. Un elemento central de este enfoque es emplear la planificaci\u00f3n espacial marina para identificar la compatibilidad de las actividades humanas con los objetivos de conservaci\u00f3n y gesti\u00f3n sostenible.<\/p>\n

Una fortaleza del NOP de Fiji es su \u00e9nfasis en la colaboraci\u00f3n a trav\u00e9s de un comit\u00e9 directivo, desarrollado para guiar la implementaci\u00f3n de su plan.
